Missouri University of Science and Technology invites leaders with strong innovation and collaboration skills to apply for the newly formed position of Vice Chancellor of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies (VCRDGS). Reporting to the Chancellor, and in coordination with the Provost, the VCRDGS will have responsibility for the integration and enhancement of research activities and graduate education across the University. The VCRDGS will also have the opportunity to build and shape Missouri S&T’s growing research mission.

About Missouri S&T: Located in Rolla, Missouri, and founded in 1870, Missouri S&T is one of the nation’s top technological research universities and one of the four campuses of the University of Missouri System. The University has two academic colleges, the College of the Arts, Sciences, and Business and the College of Engineering and Computing. The University offers over 90 degree programs in engineering, science, computing and technology, business, social sciences, humanities, and liberal arts. Together, the colleges are home to approximately 419 titled faculty, in addition to part-time faculty. Missouri S&T has total student enrollment of approximately 8,800, with graduate student enrollment of approximately 1,900. There are approximately 690 doctoral students pursuing one of 21 programs offered in STEM fields, and over 1,000 students enrolled in graduate programs serving working professionals. Missouri S&T graduates have a 93 percent career placement rate across all majors, and frequently receive multiple job offers. Missouri S&T is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a higher research activity institution, and has a diverse portfolio of NSF, NIH, DOE, industry, and private foundation grants. Over 300 research grants are awarded annually to faculty by external funding agencies and companies. At the close of FY2017, research expenditures at S&T were just over $30 million. Approximately 2/3 of funding comes from federal sources and 1/3 of funding comes from industry/private partnerships. About the VCRDGS: Missouri S&T seeks highly qualified candidates for the newly formed position for Vice Chancellor of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies. The VCRDGS will be a member of both the Chancellor’s and Provost’s Leadership Councils. The VCRDGS will work collaboratively with the administration, college deans, and internal and external campus constituents to promote high quality research and scholarship across all disciplines, as well as to promote high educational standards for graduate study. S/he will supervise approximately 25 staff members while overseeing the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Office of Technology Transfer and Economic Development. Seven research centers report into the Office of Sponsored Programs: Center for Biomedical Research, Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies, Center for Research in Energy and Environment, Intelligent Systems Center, Materials Research Center, and the Rocks Mechanics and Explosives Research Center. The VCRDGS will also oversee the Institutional Review Board, University Research Compliance, and Conflict of Interest processes. The VCRDGS will be responsible for graduate student support, recruitment, programs, and curriculum, as well as graduate student diversity initiatives, international collaborations, and career development.
