Kansas State University (K-State), a distinguished public university renowned for the excellence of its faculty, students, staff, academic programs, and research, invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Executive Vice President (Provost/EVP). K-State seeks a bold and innovative leader to work alongside the President and other University administrators to help guide the institution through the next phase of growth and to build upon a great legacy.

With an enrollment of nearly 23,000, K-State is America’s first designated operational land-grant university and consistently ranks among America’s best-value institutions, with an overall annual budget exceeding $900 million. A university-wide commitment to putting students first has attracted scholars from all 50 states and more than 90 countries who pursue degrees in more than 250 undergraduate majors and options, 65 masters programs, 45 doctoral programs, and 22 graduate certificates in nine academic colleges.

K-State is designated as a Doctoral University: Highest Research Activity and in FY2017 total research expenditures approached $200 million. The main K-State campus is located in Manhattan, Kansas and consists of the following Colleges and academic units: the College of Agriculture; College of Architecture, Planning, and Design; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business Administration; College of Education; College of Engineering; College of Human Ecology; College of Veterinary Medicine; Staley School of Leadership Studies; Graduate School; and Libraries. The University also operates the K-State Polytechnic campus, K-State Olathe, and the K-State Global Campus.

As the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost/EVP will report directly to President Richard B. Myers and is expected to serve as his close advisor and strategic leader on all aspects of university governance and the academic enterprise. The Provost/EVP also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the University in the absence of the President. The Provost/EVP will partner with the President and his leadership team on the design and implementation of the University’s strategic and operational activities, with primary responsibility for providing positive and effective leadership for the University’s academic endeavors and shaping the academic culture of K-State. In addition, the Provost/EVP will serve on the Council of Chief Academic Officers of the Kansas Board of Regents and lead the Deans’ Council. The Provost/EVP also works closely in concert with the Faculty Senate on issues of university governance. The Provost/EVP must provide an unwavering commitment to developing creative strategies for enhancing the diversity of the faculty, staff, and student body and creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members of the K-State community.

Successful candidates for the Provost/EVP position must possess a unique amalgamation of the traits, qualities and characteristics of a visionary yet collaborative servant-leader with experience in a shared governance environment. Candidates should have a track record of significant administrative accomplishments and demonstrated success in overseeing and collaborating with a broad-range of disciplines. In addition, the Search Committee and the University seek candidates with demonstrated success in planning, leading, and managing projects, groups and/or organizations of similar size to Kansas State University, and in working in partnership with academic leadership to bring ideas and visions to fruition. Candidates should have experience managing budgets, making complex financial projections, and developing external revenue streams and resources, such as fundraising, soliciting of external grants and contracts, partnership development, and alumni and community engagement.
