Four African Americans Appointed to New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Thomas Easley has been appointed assistant dean of community and inclusion at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. For the past 13 years, he has served as the director of community diversity in the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University.

Dr. Easley holds a master’s degree in forest genetics from Iowa State University and an educational doctorate from North Carolina State University.

Tami B. Simmons was named vice president of institutional advancement at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has been serving as director of the Charlotte chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Simmons is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia. She holds a master’s degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Bryan Samuel was chosen as the chief diversity and inclusion officer at Kansas State University. Since 2009, he has been on the staff at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, most recently as director of the Office of Equity and Diversity. Earlier, Dr. Samuel served as director of multicultural affairs and affirmative action programs at Western Connecticut State University.

Dr. Samuel holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He earned an educational doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Ann Penn is the new deputy director of the department of human resources at North Carolina Central University. Since February 2016, she has served as interim director of EEO compliance and employee relations at the university.

Penn is a graduate of Myers University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she majored in business administration. She holds a master’s degree in psychology from Cleveland State University.
