Assistant Professor – Coordinator Music Education

Position Summary:
Austin Peay State University invites applications for Coordinator of Music Education and elementary/general music specialist at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a permanent, full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position commencing August 1, 2018. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and education.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the music education program. He/she will be expected to engage in research and appropriate professional activities, contribute to the growth and development of the department through recruiting activities, serve on departmental and university committees, and participate in a variety of departmental activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Music Education required (degree must be completed by start of employment – August 1, 2018);
  • Minimum of 3 years successful public school teaching experience in elementary/general music required with additional experience preferred;
  • Record of excellence in post-secondary classroom teaching and field work;
  • Ongoing research agenda documented by record of publications in scholarly/peer-reviewed journals, or evidence of potential for substantial research/publication agenda;
  • Certification in one or more strongly preferred: Orff Schulwerk, Kodály, Music Learning Theory;
  • A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
