University of West Georgia — Academic Position, Art Education

Position:  The Department of Art at the University of West Georgia is seeking applications for full-time, tenure track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Art Education. The Department of Art is a traditional arts program housed in the College of Arts and Humanities.  Our students enjoy the opportunity to study within eight 2D and 3D disciplines, including Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Art Education, and Art History. Art Education is seeking candidates who are excited to join a dynamic arts program and accept the challenge of growing, a small yet successful Art Education (BFA) area of study, highlighted by record teacher placement for its majors.

Location: Serving over 13000 students, The University of West Georgia is located 45 minutes west of Atlanta. The Department of Art is a thriving NASAD-accredited department, with 300+ majors in nine disciplines, offering both BA and BFA degrees.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Teach undergraduate art education courses in a studio-oriented department.
  • Administer the art education program while serving as the department liaison with the UWG College of Education to ensure current certification and testing requirements for students in the field of art education.
  • Grow and expand the enrollment of the art education program.
  • Engage on and off site with local and regional public school teachers to raise the profile of the program.
  • Coordinate the art education program including content and curriculum development.
  • Organize placement & supervise student teachers.
  • Maintain an active record in studio and/or scholarly research.
  • Provide advisement for art education majors and serve on undergraduate capstone committees.
  • Participation in professional affiliations with local, state and national art education associations.

Qualifications: Preferred candidate will have a PhD in art education, a minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience and will demonstrate evidence of leadership and excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research.

Employment will begin August 2018.
