Website Ranks HBCU Undergraduate and Graduate Programs for “Best Value”

The website BestValueSchools.com offers rankings on colleges and universities that provide the “biggest bang for the buck.” Ratings are produced for both graduate and undergraduate programs.  Among the rankings are those for undergraduate and graduate programs at historically Black colleges and universities.

For undergraduate programs, HBCUs were ranked on their net cost and return on investment (what graduates earn related to how much they spent on obtaining their education.) At the top of the list of best value for undergraduate programs was North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. Prairie View A&M University in Texas ranked second and Florida A&M University was third. Rounding out the top five are Tennessee State University and Bowie State University in Maryland.

For graduate programs, HBCUs were rated on quality of curriculum as it related to the job market, percentage of faculty with terminal degrees, net price, return on investment, graduate fellowships or other tuition assistance opportunities, and assistance in finding a job in a student’s chosen field. In graduate programs, Florida A&M University was rated as having the “best value.” Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University held the second and third spots, respectively. The University of the District of Columbia ranked fourth and North Carolina A&T State University was fifth.
