University of Pennsylvania — Chief of Surgical Oncology

The Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician-educator track or the tenure track. The successful applicant will be accomplished in the area of surgical oncology. Responsibilities include overseeing the clinical care of patients; teaching medical students, residents and fellows; promoting scholarly research and innovation; mentoring junior faculty; managing the budget of the Division; representing the Department within the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine; and performing other administrative duties within the Department and institution. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. They must also be certified by the American Board of Surgery or its equivalent.

The successful candidate will be appointed Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and will have commensurate administrative responsibilities. Applicants should be highly accomplished oncologic surgeons, and commitment to education is essential. They should also be recognized for major contributions to clinical, translational, or basic research. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. The position will be focused at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with oversight of oncologic care at affiliated Penn Medicine institutions Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Pennsylvania Hospital (near the Penn campus) as well as Lancaster General Hospital and Chester County Hospital (regional). The construction of a new hospital at the main campus is well underway and will contain 500 beds and 47 operating rooms. Penn Medicine is consistently ranked among the top U.S. hospitals and research facilities. The Department of Surgery currently ranks first in NIH funding for surgery departments.
