University of Massachusetts Amherst — Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions

The Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions is an integral member of the department’s professional staff, which is charged with recruiting, selecting, and enrolling the undergraduate transfer class. The Assistant Director recruits applicants from assigned regions and community colleges; evaluates applications and recommends admissions decisions; communicates and interprets UMass Amherst programs and admissions criteria to students, families, counselors, and University stakeholders; and coordinates transfer admissions communications across all platforms. Collaborates across the division of Enrollment Management and the University, more broadly, to open lines of communication and leverage resources maximally.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree at time of hire.
  • 1 year of experience working in admissions and/or advising and/or advancement.
  • 1 year of experience in web-based and social media communications.
  • Excellent organization, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel and flexibility to work on occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, their families and college/transfer counselors and faculty from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to read and understand high school transcripts, college transcripts, statistical reports and manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Thorough knowledge of and fluency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and social media.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability plus the ability to obtain a university credit card.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience as an admissions counselor / recruiter for transfer or nontraditional students, experience supervising student volunteers or workers, experience developing successful social media ventures and bilingual ability.

Hiring Salary Range: $38,000-$47,600

Normal Starting Salary Range: $38,000-$42,800

PROFESSIONAL STAFF SALARY ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM POSITION LEVEL:  25
