University of Dayton — Choral Conductor & Choral Music Educator Assistant Professor

The University of Dayton seeks a creative, innovative choral conductor and educator who will build on our tradition of excellence in choral music by cultivating broad participation in a dynamic, diverse and inclusive choral program and will provide professional training and mentorship to students in a growing music education program. The successful applicant will conduct the auditioned University Chorale and additional choral ensembles and will teach Choral Conducting, Choral Music Education Methods, and other courses as assigned in the candidate’s area of interest and expertise, both for music majors and non-music majors. In addition to teaching, the successful applicant will be expected to maintain a balanced workload of scholarship/creative activity and service to the Department, the University and the profession. Service to the Department will include advising, mentoring and recruitment.

The University’s Department of Music serves approximately 80 undergraduate music majors and a large number of students majoring in other disciplines. Program offerings include Bachelor of Music degrees in Composition, Music Education, Performance, and Music Therapy (currently the largest enrollment), and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with concentrations in Music Studies, Jazz Studies, and Ethnomusicology. Music and Music Technology minors are offered.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed doctorate in music with a choral conducting emphasis
  • Record of proven achievement as a choral conductor
  • Ability to teach choral music education methods
  • Choral teaching experience at the college/university level
  • Choral teaching experience at the elementary and/or secondary
    school level
  • Articulated vision to build a vibrant and diverse university choral
  • Effective written communication skills
