Two HBCUs Post Record Numbers for Final Enrollment Figures

Alcorn State University in Mississippi reports total enrollments of 3,669 full-time students this fall. This is an increase of 7 percent from a year ago. There are 1,282 full-time students in the first-year class. This is up 39 percent from a year ago and is an all-time record for the university. Aldred Rankins, president of Alcorn State University, said that “the updated strong enrollment data is the result of a lot of hard work provided by a lot of people across the campus.”

For the sixth time in the past eight years, Delaware State University has broken enrollment records. This fall there are 4,648 students on campus. The university reports a five-year rolling average retention rate of 70 percent, a key factor in overall enrollment numbers. Harry L. Williams, president of Delaware State University, stated that “recruiting and retention are two major indicators of a university’s health. Both require a total team effort on the part of our faculty, our staff,, our students, and the families that support them.”
