Linda Burton, the James B. Duke Professor of Sociology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, is joining the university’s Sanford School of Public Policy as the new director for the Duke Center for Child and Family Policy. Professor Burton was dean of social sciences in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences from 2014 to 2017.
Dr. Burton joined the Duke faculty in 2006 after teaching at Pennsylvania State University. Professor Burton holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in sociology, all from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Jarvis C. McInnis is a new assistant professor of English at Duke. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of African American studies at Princeton University. Dr. McInnis is currently at work on his first book project, tentatively titled, The Afterlives of the Plantation: Aesthetics, Labor, and Diaspora in the Global Black South.
Dr. McInnis is a graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi, where he majored in English. He holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in English and comparative literature from Columbia University in New York City.
