New Administrative Posts in Higher Education for Six African Americans

Eddie Ellis was appointed director of bands at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. He is the past director of bands and professor of music at South Carolina State University. Earlier, he was director of bands at Morris Brown College in Atlanta.

Ellis is a graduate of Morris Brown College and holds a master’s degree in music education from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Gena Jones was appointed assistant vice president for human resource services at New Mexico State University. She was assistant vice president for human resources for Texas Tech University Health Services.

Dr. Jones is a graduate of New Mexico State University, where she majored in social work. She holds a master’s degree in management from Webster University and a doctorate in management from the University of Phoenix.

Dana Patterson is the new director of the department of intercultural affairs at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She is the former director of the Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Patterson is a graduate of Berea College in Kentucky. She holds a master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a doctorate from Washington State University.

Sam D. Burston was appointed vice president and chief advancement officer at Clark Atlanta University. Since 2011, Burston has been an executive fundraiser for the United Negro College Fund. He is a former executive for the Radisson and Sheraton hotel chains.

Burston holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Morris Brown College in Atlanta.

Milton Overton was named director of athletics at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Since 2015, he has served as the director of athletics at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. Earlier, Overton was senior associate athletics director at the University of Alabama.

Overton holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degrees in higher education administration and human relations, all from the University of Oklahoma.

Brittany Davis-Green is the new director of communication and marketing at Mississippi Valley State University. She was the chief communications officer at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Davis-Green holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
