Angela Amar Named Dean of the Nursing School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Angela Amar will be the next dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She will begin her new job on January 1. Currently, Dr. Amar is the associate dean for undergraduate studies and chief diversity officer at the School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta. Earlier, she was an associate professor and director of the advanced forensic nursing program at Boston College.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Amar said that “nursing education is fundamental to improving the access to and quality of health care. As our nation’s demographics shift, providing a pathway for lifelong learning and opportunities for seamless transition to higher degree programs will be essential to helping nurses meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, function as leaders, and advance research.”

Dr. Amar is the co-author of A Practical Guide to Forensic Nursing: Incorporating Forensic Principles into Nursing Practice (Nursing Knowledge, 2015). She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
