The Art + Art History Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor of Art, specializing in film and video, with a specialization in filmmaking and narrative. This position will be awarded in conjunction with the Morgan Woodward Endowed Professorship in Film. The position will begin August 25th, 2018.

The position requires the faculty member to teach undergraduate courses and to teach and mentor students in the MFA program in the Art and Art History Department. In addition, the individual selected will assist to further develop the film and digital programs, advise students, and participate in departmental and community service. The selected candidate must continue to develop his or her personal work and reputation as a filmmaker. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service.

An MFA in Film and Video is required. An appropriate number of years of college level teaching experience and professional experience is expected along with expertise in film/digital production, screenwriting, pre-production and related software. A strong background in narrative with experience in emulsion film production preferred. The applicant should have a significant exhibition and/or film screening record. The individual hired will demonstrate a willingness to culturally enrich the department and develop cultural initiatives that maximize our geographic, socioeconomic, and cultural presence (i.e. – enhance our worldwide community partnerships).

The Art and Art History department has approximately 800 undergraduate majors and MFA students in twelve studio disciplines. The Film and Video area is one of the most successful areas within the thriving Art + Art History Department with over 150 BFA/BA students and 6 MFA students. There are 4 full-time faculty members and a number of part-time faculty members in the department. The Visual Resources collection includes a well-developed image bank, a state-of-the-art Mac OS research center, a full-time collections manager, and resources in print and digital data. There are a number of computer labs, animation studio, film, and digital cameras and lighting systems, and shooting studio(s) available. In addition, our students benefit from the area being in an Art department, where many other studio and Art History classes have a positive and reinforcing influence on their work. DFW is the center of a vibrant film/video community, with strong production, good art house theatres, and film festivals.
