Texas State University — Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor of Elementary Math Education

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for two tenured/tenure-track positions in PK-8 mathematics education at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. We seek candidates who share our commitment to educational equity, to social justice, and to the recruitment and high-quality education of students from historically underserved and systemically marginalized communities. We are especially interested in applicants whose scholarly interests and work include attention to the concerns of race, ethnicity, multilingualism, immigrant, social class, gender, and diversity, broadly defined.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate elementary mathematics education courses, developing and publishing research in a sustained line of inquiry, collaboratively monitoring and refining degree programs, supporting student recruitment efforts, and providing service to the program, department, university and profession. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Individuals from historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Position will begin in Fall 2018.

Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:

  1. Earned doctorate by hire date in mathematics education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in scholarly activity in the field of mathematics education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc.
  3. Record of at least three years teaching experience in PK-12 schools.

Required qualifications for Associate Professor and Professor rank:

  1. Earned doctorate in mathematics education or a closely related field, from an accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Record of excellence in scholarly activity in the field of mathematics education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc. commensurate with rank.
  3. Demonstration of excellence in teaching at the university level.
  4. Record of at least three years teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
  5. To be eligible for hire at the associate professor or professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of and engagement with issues of social justice, equity, access, multilingual learning, and culturally sustainable or responsive, praxis.
  2. Knowledge of research on children’s mathematical thinking and its use in teaching practicing and prospective teachers.
  3. Potential for success in advising, recruiting, and coordinating a small cohort of practicing teachers in a graduate elementary mathematics education program.
  4. At least three years teaching experience in PK-8 schools with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  5. Demonstration of the potential for service to the department and university.
  6. Teaching experience of mathematics methods courses in university settings.

Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor and Professor rank:

  1. Evidence of research and practice related to issues of social justice, equity, access, multilingual learning, and culturally sustainable, or responsive, praxis.
  2. Knowledge of research on children’s mathematical thinking and its use in teaching practicing and prospective teachers.
  3. Potential for success in advising, recruiting, and coordinating a small cohort of practicing teachers in a graduate elementary mathematics education program
  4. Record of at least three years teaching experience in PK-8 schools with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  5. Evidence of leadership in service to the department, university, and profession.
