Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) plans, develops, and coordinates all administrative proceedings for a wide range of activities, programs, and services that enhance the quality of student life at the University. The VPSA provides leadership and supervision for student counseling services; student health services; housing and residence life; University police; recreational sports and the Payne Center; the center for military veterans, service members and families; union complex and event services; student leadership and involvement; student conduct; disability accommodations; Greek life; multicultural programs and inclusion; student ombudsman services; conference services; Greek housing; and the center for community and civic engagement. In addition, the VPSA engages in strategic planning design and implementation to align student affairs with academic affairs for a seamless learning experience for students; administers programs and services that promote student welfare and development; and ensures all initiatives are aligned with the mission and vision of the office of the Provost and The University of Southern Mississippi. The VPSA manages a full-time staff of 70 and a $20 million budget.

A doctoral degree and ten years of related full-time experience are required. Experience must include significant budgetary oversight and staff supervision. Senior-level student affairs experience at a comparable research institution is preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to build positive, productive relationships with students from all backgrounds and to develop positive, beneficial relationships with alumni and other members of the local community. Candidates should also possess significant experience with conflict resolution and familiarity with mediation techniques; knowledge of current trends and practices related to student affairs; experience with successful media relations efforts; demonstrated success with collaborations between student affairs and academic affairs; previous assessment and strategic planning experience; and a broad commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
