One African American Among the Five Finalists for President of Fairmont State University

Fairmont State University in West Virginia is located about 90 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It enrolls about 3,800 undergraduates and more than 200 graduate students. Blacks make up 6 percent of the student body.

The university has announced a field of five candidates who will be considered for the presidency of the educational institution. All five candidates recently visited the campus for a series of interviews and meeting with students, faculty, staff and other members of the university community. The board of trustees is expected to name the next president on October 19. One of the five finalists is an African American.

Robert C. Mock is the former president of the Charlotte campus of Johnson & Wales University. Previously, he was vice president for student affairs at the University of Kentucky. Earlier, he was associate vice provost for student affairs at the University of Arkansas. Earlier this year, he was a finalist for the presidency of Alabama State University.

Dr. Mock is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, where he majored in industrial engineering. He holds a master’s degree in interpersonal and organizational communication and an educational doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
