The Division of Teacher Preparation within the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applicants for this tenured/tenure-track position. The College seeks a teacher education scholar who has expertise in the area of bilingual education with a commitment to equity and diversity. Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College has a strong emphasis on improving the preparation of teachers through field-based programs, post baccalaureate programs, graduate programs, professional development, outreach activities, and close collaboration with school districts.

The successful candidate will: 1) expand an ongoing research agenda related to bilingualism and language learning/teaching; 2) innovate in the areas of teaching and program development; 3) maintain and improve program ties with educational leaders in Arizona School Districts and schools; 4) provide leadership in bilingual teacher education across the state; 5) teach appropriate courses within teacher education and graduate education programs; 6) develop grant proposals for external funding; and 7) provide service to the institution, profession, and community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university in bilingual education, applied linguistics, educational linguistics, second language acquisition, dual language learning, ESL, or a related area
  • Evidence of the ability to conduct and publish peer-reviewed research focused on bilingualism/biliteracy and/or teaching/learning in bilingual settings
  • Evidence of successful teaching in college-level courses
  • Research, teaching, and/or community involvement that demonstrates a commitment to equity and diversity
  • Candidates qualified for the rank of Associate Professor must also be eligible for tenure at Arizona State University

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching (or related work) in a P-12 setting, preferably a bilingual/multilingual setting
  • Course/program development experience
  • Online teaching experience
  • Evidence of experience obtaining funding or other grantwork
  • Proficiency in a language other than English
  • Experience engaging in collaborative research
