University of Massachusetts Amherst — Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management

The Department of Health Promotion & Policy (HPP) in the School of Public Health & Health Sciences (SPHHS www.umass.edu/sphhs) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a full-time, academic-year (nine-month), tenure-line position as Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management. UMass Amherst is a doctoral-granting university with highest research activity (R1) and the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts.

Position: This is a fully state-funded (9-month) tenure line position. Responsibilities include an active program of research, teaching, professional, and community service, as well as mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.  Candidates must possess strong research skills with a proven track record of extramurally funded program research, commensurate with experience, in health policy and management. Areas of research interest are open, while we are particularly interested in candidates interested in teaching healthcare management courses.

The Department of Health Promotion & Policy consists of a highly collaborative group of active researchers in a variety of areas, including: health economics, health disparities, women’s health, community based research, global health, and health policy. In addition to national and international collaborations, public health faculty members collaborate extensively with faculty from the School’s Departments of Nutrition, Kinesiology and Communication Disorders, other departments on campus, the University’s Medical School in Worcester, MA, and Baystate Health in Springfield, MA.  UMass Amherst is also a member of the Five College consortium with Amherst, Smith, Hampshire, and Mount Holyoke Colleges, with many opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration, and is also a member of the Academic Career Network, a resource for dual-career couples.

Qualifications:  Candidates for the position must meet the following requirements:

Candidates must have a professional profile appropriate for a 9/1/18 tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, to include

  • Terminal degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) in health policy and management or closely related field of study
  • Strong evidence of independent and collaborative research
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in teaching at the undergraduate, Masters and doctoral levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and
  • In addition, preference will be given to candidates possessing excellent potential for securing federal research funding.
