Two African Americans Named to Dean Positions at Alcorn State University

Edmund Buckner was named dean of the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State. He has been serving as the interim dean of the School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Dr. Buckner is a graduate of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. He holds a master’s degree in fisheries from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in natural resource policy and law from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

“I am very excited to be here at Alcorn State University,” said Dr. Buckner. “I look forward to working with the faculty and staff to grow student enrollment, continue our cutting edge research programs and share this important information with our farmers, ranchers and rural and urban communities.”

Donna Williams was appointed dean of the School if Business at Alcorn State University. She was acting as interim dean. She has been serving as an assistant professor and  chair of undergraduate business programs.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be chosen as the dean for the School of Business,” said Dr. Williams. “I am very excited about the future of the business school. What’s very important to me is to create an environment where students can be educated so that they can be well equipped for graduate and professional school and employment opportunities.”
