Muhlenberg College — Assistant Professor, English and Africana Studies

Assistant Professor of English and Africana Studies – Muhlenberg College seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor in English and Africana Studies (joint appointment) beginning August 2018. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to teach and research African American and African diasporic literature; we especially welcome applicants who can teach broadly in American literature. We seek a colleague to help us rethink what it means to do English in the 21st century and who can contribute to the development and growth of the Africana Studies Program.

The successful candidate must combine teaching excellence and innovative pedagogy with an intellectually compelling research agenda and a commitment to Muhlenberg’s General Education Curriculum goals such as diversity and global engagement, community-based learning, integrative learning (including interdisciplinary collaboration), and the cultivation of curiosity. The 3/3 teaching load includes Literature and Africana Studies courses at all levels and First-Year Seminars in our Writing Across the Curriculum program. Ph.D. should be in hand by August 2018.

To apply, submit an application letter; CV; three letters of reference; a brief (10-20 page) writing sample; a statement describing experiences with and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness; and a single page description of a course you would like to teach, possibly informed or inspired by your ongoing research and writing agenda. Submit materials to Drs. Barri J. Gold and Roberta Meek, c/o EnglishSearch@muhlenberg.eduby November 1, 2017.
