James B. Hughes Jr. to Lead the Emory University School of Law

James B. Hughes Jr. has been named interim dean of the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. He replaced Judson Graves who was named interim dean in June. Graves stepped down for “personal reasons.”

Dwight A. McBride, provost and executive vice president of academic affairs at Emory University stated that Professor Hughes’ “extensive leadership experience, ties to the Atlanta community, and devotion to the law school and to Emory will be tremendous assets in this time of transition.”

Professor Hughes has been a member of the faculty at the law school since 1992. He also has been serving as associate dean for academic affairs. Earlier, he was a partner in the Atlanta law firm Trotter, Smith & Jacobs, where he practiced commercial real estate law.

Professor Hughes is a graduate of the University of Connecticut. He earned a juris doctorate at Yale Law School.
