In Memoriam: Norris Allen Edney, 1936-2017

Norris Allen Edney, a long-time faculty member who served as both acting president and interim president of Alcorn State University in Mississippi, died on August 26 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. He was 81 years old.

Dr. Edney joined the faculty at Alcorn State University in 1963 as an instructor of biology. During his long career at the university, Dr. Edney served as  chair of the department of biology, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, dean of graduate studies, and interim dean of the School of Nursing. From 1979 to 1984, Dr. Edney was president of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Dr. Edney was a graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi, where he majored in biology. He held a master’s degree in biology from Antioch College in Ohio, and a Ph.D. in conservation from Michigan State University.
