Academic Restructuring at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina

Johnson C Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, has announced the creation of a School of Social Work at the university. The School of Social Work will offer both bachelor and master of social work degrees, as well as research and training opportunities in the theory and practice of social work. Dr. Helen Caldwell, currently dean of the College of Professional Studies will lead the new School of Social Work.

The university has also renamed Metropolitan College to the Metropolitan College of Professional Studies. The departments of business administration and health and human performance will be housed in this College. Laura McLean will be dean of the Metropolitan College of Professional Studies. The university’s online programs in business administration and sports management will also be housed in the new college.

In Memoriam: Roscoe Hightower Jr., 1966-2024

Dr. Hightower was a professor of marketing at his alma mater, historically Black Florida A&M University, where he taught for over two decades. He also served the university as the Centennial Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Marketing and Facility Management.
