POSITION LEVEL:  Assistant Professor in African American Literature

The Department of English at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, LA invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in early African American Literature through the 19th century. Appointment will begin August 2018. The Department currently has strengths in 20th century African American Literature, and literature of the African Diaspora including African and Caribbean, in addition to a focus on people of African descent in World Literature and American Literature. The search committee will give consideration to applications from individuals whose research and teaching are explicitly in the literary field and time period stipulated.

A Ph.D. in English is required by time of appointment. Ideal applicants will possess a promising record of scholarship and strong teaching evaluations, and should be prepared to teach introductory survey courses, composition and rhetoric or composition and literature courses, in addition to developing upper-level courses within the candidate’s area of specialization suitable for undergraduates. The teaching load is 4/4, and all faculty participate in department or university service.
