Involves developing, promoting and supporting the operational and strategic aspects of intercollegiate student athlete programs, including planning, scheduling, budget administration and travel. As the Assoc. Dir of Compliance, this role must enact a strategic approach to monitoring, educating, reviewing and reporting as it relates to NCAA and institutional rules. The Assoc. Dir. for Compliance is responsible for the creation and management of initiatives that promote an institutional and departmental culture of integrity and compliance as it relates to intercollegiate athletics. The position is charged with monitoring, interpreting, evaluating and analyzing the athletic department’s programs, policies and procedures, and activities intended to support the NCAA. The position is responsible for all facets of NCAA athletics compliance, including developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive, transparent, and effective athletics compliance program. Responsibilities also include the supervision of medial compliance, assessing compliance risks, review of certification of eligibility, maintenance of rules, and reporting of violations. General divisional responsibilities include the coordination of divisional policies and procedures that have a compliance nexus.

Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced intercollegiate athletics professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures to plan, administer and coordinate the operations of a complex program and / or activity. Resolves a wide range of issues of diverse scope and complexity. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting for obtaining solutions. May lead or serve as a resource for others.

Special Conditions:

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check. Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and be able to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice program; Interviewees will be required to provide a current DMV record.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Pass NCAA Rules Test annually.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus; Travel and attend NCAA Regional Rules Seminar annually.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends.

Will be required to complete the following training:

  • Basic Cash Handling (16 minute video & 10 question quiz) training and pass the quiz ith a score of 80% or greater within 5 days of hire.
  • FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) training within one month of hire.
  • PCI training within one month of hire.
  • Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years.
  • Will be required to take the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) online training module.
  • Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, this position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority. The selected candidate will be required to report a crime or any incident that may be a crime including hazing.
  • Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment. Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or 2 years equivalent experience with a college-level program.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse client group.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively; demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making; is an effective problem solver and effectively communicates verbally and in writing.
  • Functional knowledge of the intercollegiate athletics function.
  • Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
