Tuskegee University Seeks to Increase Diversity of Veterinary Medical Education

Historically Black Tuskegee University in Alabama has entered into a partnership agreement with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Under the agreement, graduates of University of North Carolina at Pembroke will gain an easier pathway to acceptance at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University.

While the program is open to all graduates of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, preference will be given to recruiting and admitting qualified students from underrepresented groups. African Americans make up 35 percent of the undergraduate student body at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Ruby Perry, dean of Tuskegee’s College of Veterinary Medicine, stated: “We are excited to be involved in the mission of UNC Pembroke, which is rooted in a history of successfully educating underrepresented minorities to make significant contributions in professional and leadership roles in society, while continuing to advance the rich legacy of the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine.”
