The School of Education Field Placement Office at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a 12-month full-time Assistant Field Placement Coordinator.

Description of Responsibilities:  

  • Understand undergraduate and graduate certification programs and assist in implementing overall School of Education policies and procedures regarding required field placements.
  • Collaborate with Field Placement Office Director and School of Education departments to make required field placements (field experience and student teaching).
  • Work with School of Education candidates prior to placements to increase their awareness/understanding of the field placement/student teaching/internship application process, and options for field placements.
  • Coordinate and implement orientation and registration events regarding field placements.
  • Track, review and monitor status of field placements and all associated paperwork including request letters and forms, and student and teacher notification letters.
  • Visit P-12 schools and other educational agencies to meet regularly with school administrators, particularly urban and high-needs districts, to develop and/or increase high quality placement opportunities and foster vibrant partnerships.
  • Maintain a list of current and prospective cooperating teachers.  Communicate verbally and in writing in a professional manner with school personnel, college faculty, and candidates to obtain, make, and confirm all placements and to promote public relations.

In addition, will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree at time of application
  • Basic knowledge of school districts and school functions
  • A commitment to preparing candidates for multicultural/global communities of the 21st century
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, professional staff members, candidates and P-12    stakeholder groups
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and technological skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in P-12 schools, Higher Education, or related field

Description of Field Placement Office:  Established in the fall of 2001, this office provides a centralized system for locating, developing and sustaining field placement sites for all academic majors in the School of Education. At present, more that 950 education candidates are being placed in nearly 300 schools and other agencies (e.g., business, industrial, health care, fitness) during each academic year and summer sessions. Office personnel include the full-time director, one assistant coordinator, one administrative assistant, one receptionist/clerical specialist, and a graduate assistant.
