Virginia Tech Holds Its Inaugural Black College Institute

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg recently held its first Black College Institute. The institute was a three-day, pre-college program that sought to acclimate African American and Black students to college life. Nearly 60 students attended.

The focus of the first day was empowerment and self-exploration. Students heard talks from administrators and faculty members and attended seminars and empowerment sessions.

The second day was devoted to service. Students were bused to Roanoke to participate in community service projects. On the third day, students attended a professional development session and college career fair and participated in an “etiquette lunch.”

Below is a video with information on the Black College Institute.
