Utica College — Director of Opportunity Programs

Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking a Director of Opportunity Programs who reports to the Senior Vice President of Student Life & Enrollment Management. Has direct responsibility for the general administration of the Office of Opportunity Programs, which includes the supervision of the counseling and administrative staff.

The Director sets the tone for the department and will be asked to ensure that the highest levels of customer service and student success, while honing established connections to the larger College community and creating new opportunities for our students.

Primary responsibilities include:
General administration of Opportunity Programs, HEOP and CSTEP, which includes liaisons with all academic departments and divisions; the supervision of all academic advising, personal counseling and administrative staff; Administrative liaison with NYSED and related activities; Personal Counseling for students; Advising support; Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership. Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success; Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators; Some travel is required for meetings and program activities involving students; Supervises Tutoring Program/Counselor(s)/Assistant Director and Administrative Assistant; May perform other related duties as assigned.

MS in Counseling or Related Field required with at least four years’ experience in Higher Education
Must have excellent administrative and communication skills with the ability to motivate others; Requires mentoring and supervisory skills sufficient to facilitate on going staff development; A strong commitment to diversity and work continually to enhance diversity of our students, faculty, and staff; Must have the ability to manage a variety of task at the same time without losing sight of the overall mission of the department; Experience with managing and responding to grant opportunities and requests for information is necessary.
