Three African American Men in New University Administrative Posts

Kevin McDonald, chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer for the University of Missouri System was given the added duties of vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity and equity at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Before joining the University of Missouri, Dr. McDonald served as vice president and associate provost for diversity and inclusion at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.

Dr. McDonald is a graduate of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he majored in psychology. He holds a law degree from Ohio State University and a doctoral degree in higher education leadership from the University of Rochester.

Johnny P. Tooson, was appointed executive director of student engagement and leadership at the University of Massachusetts, effective August 7. Since January 2016, he has served as associate director for student life at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Earlier, he was director of student life at Georgia Perimeter College.

Tooson holds a bachelor’s degree in human development and a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Alabama.

James A. Felton III is the new chief diversity officer at the State University of New York-Cortland. He was the chief diversity officer at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland.

Felton earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in educational administration from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland.
