Williams College is pleased to announce the position of Associate Director, Mentoring and Transition Programming in the Career Center. This is a full-time, year-round, regular appointment. The College seeks a talented Associate Director to build a student to alumni mentoring program. As part of the division of College Relations, the candidate will collaborate with members of both the Career Center and office of Alumni Relations to create a mentoring program that serves the needs of Williams’ students and alumni.

The Associate Director, Mentoring and Transition Programming will build, manage, and continuously improve a student to alumni mentoring program. In doing so, the Associate Director will review potential software providers, benchmark mentoring programs at peer institutions, launch a pilot mentor program for the Fall of 2017, and meet ongoing growth goals – including eventually building an alumni to alumni program. In addition to managing the Mentor program, the Associate Director will be responsible for leveraging alumni contacts to create a professional development series targeted at the unique needs of Williams Seniors and young alumni. The Associate Director will also act as a point of contact for young alums and collaborate with the Director of Career Discovery to build a four-year career development program.

Primary duties include:

  • Develop and launch a student to alumni mentoring program, matching current students with alumni by career field, geographic preference, and community affiliation (e.g., sports teams, clubs/organizations, etc.)
  • Partner with the Alumni Relations Office to connect undergraduate mentoring to the emerging alumni Career Affinity Networks
  • Establish and develop partnerships with alumni with a goal of increasing opportunities (mentoring, field-specific advising, and recruiting connections) for Williams College students and alumni
  • Explore new programming options, emerging trends, and technologies in the mentoring and programming spaces, and facilitates connection between the College and alumni volunteers
  • Collaborate with the Director of Career Discovery and Employer Relations Team to create relevant programming for Seniors and young alums, including the senior meeting
  • Work as intake specialist for young Alumni career concerns, and refer students to appropriate career specialists as needed
  • Market Liberal Arts Career Network (LACN) opportunities to young alumni

It is preferred that candidates for the position hold a Master’s degree with 2 – 5 years’ experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with advising and building large-scale programs are desired but not essential. Exceptionally strong writing and presentation skills are essential.
