Two State Universities Appoint African Americans to Chief Diversity Officer Posts

James L. Moore III was appointed interim vice provost for diversity and inclusion and interim chief diversity officer at Ohio State University. He will serve in these positions for the next year. Dr. Moore is the Education and Human Ecology Distinguished Professor of Urban Education in the College of Education and Human Ecology at the university. He also serves as the inaugural executive director of the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male.

Professor Moore is a graduate of Delaware State University, where he majored in English education. He earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in counselor education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.

Emily Monago will be the inaugural chief diversity officer at the University of Wyoming. Since 2010, Dr. Monago has been director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Dr. Monago holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of public administration degree from Kent State University in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. in communications studies from Bowling Green State University.

  1. I have a question. What’s going on with the University of Gerogia. In 2016, they graduated their first African American female with a Ph.D. in Physics. Also, they’ve had a population of 1 to 3% of African American males.
