Date of Appointment: Anticipated on/around August 10, 2017

Description of Responsibilities: Recruitment and retention of qualified undergraduate students, specifically from the Long Island, New York region; admissions presentations; interviewing and counseling prospective students and their families; extensive recruitment travel, with focus on Long Island populations and other select metropolitan areas; application review; events for students, families, school counselors; yield activities to include a variety of methods and approaches. Evenings and some weekend work will be necessary during the academic year.

In addition, will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Working knowledge of computer and web applications
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree
  • Prior experience in college admissions or closely related area
  • Experience with social media and applications such as Skype

The Undergraduate Office of Admissions at SUNY Oswego is a dynamic office, made up of over 20 professional and support staff members and graduate assistants. The office is responsible for the recruitment and enrollment of new undergraduate first-year and transfer students, using a variety of methods including but not limited to promotional marketing, in print, online and via social media; recruitment travels to high schools, colleges, and college fairs; presentations to students, families, CBO’s, and school counselors; campus visits; application review and timely admission decisions.
