Leadership Purge in Dean Positions at Florida A&M University

Florida A&M University announced that it has removed three deans from their posts and named interim dean to replace them. The three deans will remain on the university’s faculty.

Ann Kimbrough will no longer be the dean of School of Journalism & Graphic Communication. Before being named dean in 2012, Dr. Kimbrough was a senior administrator at Webster University in Arkansas and a visiting professor at Arkansas Baptist College. Dr. Kimbrough is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University. She holds a master’s degree in financial journalism from Northwestern University and a doctorate in business administration from Argosy University in Atlanta. Lady Dhyana Ziegler was named interim dean.

Tracki Taylor will no longer serve as dean of the College of Education, a post she held for only 18 months. Earlier, Dr. Taylor was dean and professor in the College of Education at Bowie State University in Maryland. Earlier in her career, she was associate dean in the School of Education and Human Services at the University of Michigan-Flint. Dr. Taylor is a graduate of Coppin State University in Baltimore, where she majored in special education. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. Patricia Green-Powell was appointed interim dean.

Michael Thompson will not be returning as dean of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, a post he has held since 2012. Less than 60 percent of the graduates passed the national licensing examination on their first attempt. This was the lowest rate in the nation among the 129 pharmacy schools using the NAPLEX examination. Dr. Thompson joined the faculty at the College of Pharmacy in 1981 as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice. He was promoted to full professor in 2001. Dr. Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in pharmacy at the University of Michigan. Seth Ablordeppey will serve as interim dean.
