The Hampton University School of Business invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean beginning July 1, 2017. Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically Black university located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton with a student enrollment of approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution of higher learning with accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the State Council of High Education for Virginia. The School of Business is accredited by the IACBE (International Assembly for Colligate Business Education) and offers the Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.  The School houses the departments of Accounting, Investment Banking, and Finance; Management; Business Administration; the area of Enrollment Management; and the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Economics, and Marketing.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of the School of Business is a 12-month administrative appointment and reports directly to the Chancellor and Provost. The successful candidate will provide leadership in advancing the school’s network of external relationships nationally as well as internationally and raising 33 1/3% of his/her operating budget. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the implementation of sound educational policies and effective management of personnel, programs, and fiscal resources; and the overall quality of academic programs, faculty, students and graduates within the school, and professional activities which support the budget and/or enhance the reputation of the school. He or she must possess a high level of energy and initiative, and good organizational skills. The ideal candidate should also have a solid history of securing external funding, discretion in handling confidential information, flexibility to adapt to changing needs and priorities, and the ability to prioritize and simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and events.

The candidate will be expected to initiate the development of long range plans and curriculum review, facilitate pursuit of accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), while continuing IACBE accreditation of current programs, maintaining the academic standards of the University, enhancing the prestige of the University through professional activities, research, publications, and creative and scholarly activities; and implementing effective student recruitment and community outreach programs for attracting qualified students.

The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a business-related field. As management is the key, the successful candidate must also possess a proven record and understanding of management; university-level administrative experience; direct experience with the accreditation process; successful administrative experience as department chair, associate dean, or comparable positions; a record of university-level teaching, service and scholarship consistent with appointment at the level of associate professor or full professor; and demonstrated success collaborating with financial and investment institutions such as the investment firms of Wall Street as well as other similar domestic or international institutions.
