Xavier University Begins Partnership With the University of Antilles

Historically Black Xavier University in New Orleans has entered into a partnership agreement with the University of Antilles that has campuses on the French-speaking Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Camile Galap, rector of the University of Antilles-Guadeloupe, recently toured the Xavier University campus. Appreciating the fact that both the president and provost of Xavier University spoke French, Dr. Galap said “we share a lot in common in terms of academia, origin, customs, roots, and particularly history. If we know where we came from then we have a better idea of where we’re going together.”

Under the agreement the two universities will begin a student exchange program for the spring 2018 semester. A minimum of two students from each university will study at the partner university for a semester. The two universities will also pursue joint projects through the Xavier University Library and Archives, the Division of Education, and the department of languages.

Torian Lee, director of the Center for Intercultural and International Programs at Xavier University noted that “this partnership is right in line with our mission as it gives multiple opportunities for students to study, to intern, and to do research. It brings international students to the classroom at Xavier and vice versa.”
