Job Title: Executive Director of the Foundation and Planned Giving

Time Commitment: 40+ hours per week

Position Summary:
The Executive Director of the Foundation and Planned Giving reports directly to the Board of Directors of the Fresno Pacific University Foundation to lead and manage the operations of the Foundation.  The University President meets regularly with the FPUF Board and with the Executive Director to collaboratively guide and evaluate the work of the Executive Director.  To ensure coordinated and successful planned giving efforts, the Executive Director participates with the FPU Vice President for advancement in regular major and planned giving gift development meetings convened by the President.  The University President resolves issues and provides direction as needed.  The Executive Director will represent and advance the Christ-centered higher education mission, beliefs, and values of the University personally and professionally.  The Executive Director will demonstrate by word and action in all relationships a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, be active in the life of the church, and be in substantial agreement with the university’s Confession of Faith.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan with measurable goals to guide the day to day activities of the Fresno Pacific University Foundation, including employees and volunteers who report to the Executive Director.
  • Assist the Foundation’s Board of Directors in all areas of Foundation activity, including recruitment and development of board members, and identification and cultivation of donors.
  • Manage the Heritage Society whose members have made a planned gift to the Foundation or the University, and maintain a planned giving contact data base as part of the university’s donor information system.
  • Maintain the service and integrity of a planned giving software system and data.
  • Plan and implement a print and online advertising campaign for the Foundation to promote planned giving, including Fresno Pacific University publications.
  • Write and arrange for the publication of articles on planned giving and related topics.
  • Provide counsel and direct the planned giving activities for all University capital campaigns.
  • Manage a portfolio of at least 100 major-gift donors and prospects.
  • Make individual and group planned giving presentations and proposals to donors and prospects, including university and seminary alumni and active and retired FPU faculty and staff.
  • Maintain and develop a network of financial and estate planning professionals who understand FPU and the Foundation, and who could encourage potential donors to consider supporting the mission of the University.
  • Collaborate with the university and seminary staff to coordinate donor cultivation and solicitations, and to provide planned giving counsel and services.
  • Complete legal arrangements for deferred gift transactions with the appropriate financial advisors of donors.
  • Maintain and develop personal and professional skills and networks in the field of planned giving.


  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the University
  • Have a minimum of a BA/BS degree.
  • Have a minimum 5 years of demonstrated success in financial planning and possess a working knowledge of various planned giving instruments.
  • Possess strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Demonstrate skills in interpersonal relationships.
  • Be able and willing to travel.
  • Be a creative problem solver.
  • Demonstrate good working mastery of Windows, MS Office, and Outlook
  • Give evidence of ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Absent any driving or legal record that would prevent approval by the university insurance company or bonding agencies.
  • Must be able to sign fiduciary documents with investment, real estate, title, banking and government agencies.


  • J.D. or CFRE certification.
  • 2 years of experience in a related leadership position, including ability to work effectively with a not for profit board.
  • Experience in Christian higher education as student and/or employee.
  • Possess a broad range of financial, management, and fund-raising skills.
  • Be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Competence in Crescendo Plus and Crescendo Pro.
  • Experience using Sales Force.
  • Understanding of real estate transactions.
  • Ability to understand and analyze investment documents, legal documents, budgets and audits.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least ninety percent (90%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Proficient at multitasking.
  • Public contact position requiring business-like apparel.

  • Indoor work environment.
  • Perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodation: stand, sit, kneel, stoop, reach, lift, grasp, finger, see (near and far) for reading and data analysis on a computer screen, hear and talk for ordinary conversation and telephone calls.

  • Travel alone between campuses.
  • Based on the main campus of Fresno Pacific University.

Pay is based upon qualifications and experience.
