University of Maryland Eastern Shore Offers a New Learning Opportunity in Hospitality Management

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the historically Black educational institution in Princess Anne, is collaborating on a new restaurant venture with its foundation, and an alumnus of the university who is the owner of the Princess Anne University Village shopping center.

The new restaurant will operate as “a learning laboratory that cultivates, encourages and promotes entrepreneurism among UMES students interested in pursuing careers in the hospitality industry.” The restaurant will operate as a “sports-themed” grille with a liquor license and televisions where athletic events could be viewed in a group setting. The venue’s decor will highlight UMES sports history and also will feature a “University Welcome kiosk.”

Ernest Boger, chair of hospitality and tourism management program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, said “it is vital for our students to have opportunities while still in school to put into practice what they are learning in the classroom.”

The restaurant will offer employment opportunities for university students in financial aid work-study programs. Some of the profits from the venture will be donated to the university’s foundation.
