Three African Americans Appointed to New Administrative Positions

Jonathan Nurse was named director of federal relations for Florida State University. He was director of government relations for the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is the former assistant director of federal relations for the University of Washington.

A native of New Jersey, Nurse holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from George Washington University in the nation’s capital.

Shawna Cooper-Gibson is the new assistant provost for student academic services st Loyola University Chicago. She was dean of students st the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Cooper-Gibson is a graduate of the University of Illinois. She holds a master’s degree from National Louis University and an educational doctorate from Boston University.

Mario Berry was appointed vice president and chief information officer for media and information technology at Spelman College in Atlanta. He will begin his new job on May 1. He has been serving as associate vice chancellor for enterprise applications for the Lone Star College System in Houston, Texas.

Berry holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from National American University and a master’s degree in management and computer information technology from Regis University. He is a Ph.D. candidate in educational leadership and management at Capella University.
