In Memoriam: Lenny Knight, 1970-2017

Lenny Knight, the assistant director of the Approaching Storm Band at Delaware State University, died on March 14 at his home. He was 46 years old.

Knight joined the staff at Delaware State University in 2007 after serving as band director at Dover High School in Delaware for 15 years.

In 1989, Knight joined the university’s band as a percussionist. He was forced to leave school to work but returned and earned his degree in 1999.

Harry L. Williams, president of Delaware State University, stated that “Lenny Knight showed his love for his alma mater by returning to Delaware State University to help lead the Approaching Storm Band. His gift in touching lives is evidenced by the students who played under him at Dover High School and them followed him to Delaware State University.”
