Florida State’s Andre J. Thomas Honored by the American Choral Directors Association

Andre J. Thomas, the Owen F. Sellers Professor of Music at Florida State University, received the 2017 Robert Shaw Choral Award at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association. The award is the highest honor conferred by the association. It is given out every two years to a choral leader who has made unusual contributions to the art of choral music.

“It was with deep humility that I accepted this award to join an esteemed group of people who had been mentors and role models throughout my professional career,” Professor Thomas said.

Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. He earned a master’s degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Illinois.
