Founded in 1871, West Chester is a public, regional, comprehensive university and one of the fourteen campuses of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. WCU enrolls more than of 17,000 students, is supported by 983 full and part-time faculty, and is organized into five colleges: Arts and Humanities; Business and Public Management; the Sciences and Mathematics; Education and Social Work; and Health Sciences. The university is located 25 miles west of Philadelphia and strategically located in the center of the mid-Atlantic corridor between New York City and Washington, DC, with easy access to major cultural and commercial institutions and recreational activities. West Chester University’s College of Business and Public Management offers academic programs that feature small classes, excellent internship opportunities, and highly qualified faculty who are committed to teaching excellence and a wide range of research interests. The College consists of a total of 77 tenured and tenure track faculty members and 18 staff organized into seven departments: Accounting, Criminal Justice, Economics and Finance, Geography and Planning, Management, Marketing, and Public Policy and Administration. The College offers eight accredited programs to 4,192 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including the University’s largest doctoral program (Doctor of Public Administration). The School of Business is accredited by the AACSB. In addition, the Master of Public Administration is accredited by NASPAA. The College of Business and Public Management is home to the Center for GIS and Spatial Analysis and the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Entrepreneurial Center, and is affiliated with the Center for Social and Economic Policy Research. The College offers courses and supports programs at two off-campus locations. Graduate courses in business and public administration are also held at the WCU Graduate Center. The Graduate Center is located approximately four miles from the main campus. Graduate courses in criminal justice are offered at West Chester University’s Philadelphia location in Center City Philadelphia, approximately 30 miles from the main campus. The College of Business and Public Management has undergone a high degree of growth in recent years and has recently moved to a new state-of-the-art facility. This position provides an opportunity for an innovative leader to continue to build the college and realize its vision as a leader in the region.
As chief academic officer of the college, the dean provides leadership to advance the educational and scholarly missions of programs in the college and fosters an inclusive environment that encourages an academic climate that is responsive, student-centered, entrepreneurial and values diversity. The dean is the principal spokesperson and advocate for the College and sits on the Academic Affairs Council and President’s Council to formulate and implement University policies and strategic plans. The dean is responsible for the review of curricula and programs, staffing, budgeting, oversight of all operational functions of the college, alumni cultivation, and fundraising. The dean also functions in various University-wide roles, and in the external community. The dean must be committed to collaborative, ethical leadership and skilled in human and financial resource management, as well as strategic planning. The dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
It is preferred that the dean possess a terminal degree in a field within the college or supplemental field of study in the college; a record of quality teaching, scholarship, and administrative experience at the college level in programs reflected in Business and Public Management; proven expertise and experience with specialized accreditation processes (AACSB, NASPAA); effective interpersonal skills, and highly proficient oral and written communication skills. Desired qualifications include experience as a chair or program director in a large department or institution and university level experience with budget and personnel within a collective bargaining environment. Applicants must successfully complete the interview process to be considered as a finalist.
