Murray State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Located in Murray, Kentucky, Murray State is a top-ranked regional comprehensive university with approximately 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in 134 academic programs, including three doctoral programs. For 26 consecutive years, Murray State has been recognized as one of the nation’s top public universities.
Reporting to Dr. Robert O. Davies, Murray State University’s 13th President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost) is the University’s Chief Academic Officer and leader of its academic enterprise. The Provost is a tenured faculty member in one of the University’s academic departments. Units reporting to the Provost include: Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business; College of Education and Human Services; College of Humanities and Fine Arts; Jesse D. Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology; Hutson School of Agriculture; School of Nursing and Health Professions; Office of Regional Academic Outreach; University Libraries; Honors College; Institute for International Studies; Institutional Review Board; Graduate Admissions; Center for Academic Advising; Office of Research and Creative Activity; Office of Sponsored Programs; Center for Telecommunications Systems Management; and Office of the Registrar.
Murray State University seeks a Provost with a broad academic vision that encompasses the entire campus; a strong background in research, scholarship and teaching and a commitment to both graduate and undergraduate education. The successful candidate will be a passionate, intellectual and accomplished scholar who is committed to the vision of faculty as teacher/scholars, who will embrace interdisciplinary approaches, who will engage with faculty and students across a diverse set of academic pursuits, who is committed to the open exchange of ideas across campus and who can drive Murray State’s continued momentum and growth.
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree from an accredited institution; a distinguished record of teaching, service and scholarly/creative achievement meriting appointment as a tenured professor; a minimum of five years of creative and visionary leadership in academic initiatives with proven results; a demonstrated commitment to shared governance and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with evidence of facilitating collaboration with and among diverse faculty, staff, students and administrators; and proven experience in providing leadership, oversight and strategic direction.
