Mohamed Camara to Chair the Department of Africana Studies at Howard University

Howard University in Washington, D.C., has announced that Mohamed Camara will chair the university’s department of Africana studies. He will hold the rank of full professor.

Dr. Camara has been serving as associate vice president for academics, speaker of the Faculty Senate, and director of the McNair Scholars Program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. African Americans are 6 percent of the undergraduate student body at Embry-Riddle.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Camara was a lecturer and associate chair of the department of philosophy at the University of Conakry in the African nation of Guinea. He also served as president of the University Press of Conakry.

Professor Camara holds a Ph.D. in history from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He is the author of Political History of Guinea Since World War Two (Peter Lang International Publishers, 2014).
