The Department of Chemistry at Bates College, a private, highly selective liberal arts college in Maine, invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting assistant professor of chemistry beginning August 1, 2017. Teaching responsibilities include one section each semester of the introductory chemistry course sequence along with two introductory laboratory sections, as well as a one-semester course of the candidate’s choice designed for non-science majors. The opportunity exists to mentor undergraduate thesis research projects, but this is not required.

We especially welcome applications from all individuals with the ability to contribute to the college’s continuing commitment to social and cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and the transformative power of our differences.
Review of applications begins on March 1, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. A Ph.D. or A.B.D in chemistry and a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting are required. Applicants should submit in PDF form the following: a cover letter that addresses what interests you about working at a small, residential, liberal arts college, a current CV, a brief statement describing your teaching philosophy, graduate school transcripts, three letters of recommendation, at least one of which discusses qualities that will support your role as a teacher. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
