The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the position of Director of the Abramson Cancer Center.

The Abramson Cancer Center has tremendous breadth, momentum, and societal impact, with a portfolio and trajectory that predict even greater accomplishments in the future. With more than 300 faculty members representing over 40 departments at Penn, the Center is one of the most diverse and distinguished cancer centers in the country. The Abramson Cancer Center is the home for ground-breaking basic, clinical and population-based research that is applied to the delivery of state-of-the-art patient care and education.

The ACC Director is responsible for setting the vision for the Center’s tripartite mission, securing funding and resources, facilitating team-based transdisciplinary research, and decision-making on scientific policy, strategic directions, and investments. He/she serves as Principal Investigator for the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant. The Director plays a major role in the coordination of outstanding interdisciplinary care through the matrixed Cancer Service Line of the Health System. The authority and influence of this role are far-reaching and span the full spectrum of clinical and research activities. The Director reports to the Dean of the PSOM/EVP of the University for the Health System and serves as the senior cancer advisor to Penn leaders. He/she plays a vital role within Penn and is actively involved in major committees, recruitments, and efforts of the Health System, the Perelman School of Medicine, and the University.

Qualified candidates are those who hold an MD or MD, PhD degree and meet the standards for appointment as a tenured full Professor in the standing faculty. The successful candidate will possess strong administrative leadership skills; a track record of distinguished scholarship; and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional cancer care. Strong interest and expertise in fundraising is very important. Other essential qualities include visionary thinking to continue to build the future of the Center on its solid foundation of excellence. The faculty appointment will be in a department that is consistent with the scientific expertise of the successful candidate.
