The Department of Performing, Visual Arts and Communications at Dutchess Community College invites applications for a tenure track position in Musical Theatre with an expected start date in August of 2017.
The typical teaching responsibility includes musical directing or directing the college’s annual musical, and four to five courses a semester including History of American Musical Theatre and additional classes in music, dance, and/or theatre based on the candidate’s strengths. Preferred candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of assessment in course and program development, experience/interest serving on committees, organizational skills as they relate to budgeting and scheduling, and potential to supervise adjunct instructors.
Minimum qualifications include an earned Master’s degree, demonstrated expertise and experience working as either a Music Director (preferably with accompaniment skills) or Director (preferably with choreography skills), an excellent record as a musical theatre educator (including experience working with a wide range of students), professional experience in musical theatre, strong organizational skills, and a great collaborator and team-player.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with or teaching community college students and to those with an understanding and appreciation of the role of the community college in higher education. Preferred candidates will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of assessment in course and program development. Candidates should have some experience using instructional technology in classroom or online adaptations, and a willingness to adopt new and emerging technologies. A commitment to diversity and an understanding of how diversity impacts learning and instruction is strongly preferred.
Faculty positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College and Dutchess United Educators (DUE).
