The Department of Mathematics & Computer Science at Dutchess Community College invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions in Mathematics. This position has an expected start date in August, 2017.
The Department of Mathematics & Computer Science is solely dedicated to student learning, and is not a research-focused department. The successful candidate will have a desire to work with students, especially remedial students, on a daily basis and will be expected to contribute to departmental discussions about how to improve the teaching and learning process at the college. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory statistics, remedial mathematics, and other college math courses. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach at all levels from remedial mathematics through the calculus sequence, including statistics. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a willingness and ability to fulfill the other responsibilities and roles taken on by a full time member of the faculty including assessment, program and course development, and participation in campus committees.
Minimum qualifications include an earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with some college level teaching and to those with an understanding of the current challenges in community college mathematics classrooms. In addition, knowledge of best practices in teaching mathematics, especially for the remedial population is desired.
Preference will also be given to candidates with experience teaching college introductory statistics, as well as candidates with a background in special education.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with or teaching community college students and with an appreciation of the role of the community college in higher education. Preferred candidates should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of the part assessment plays in course and program development. Additionally, preferred candidates will have some experience in using instructional technology in classroom and a willingness to adopt new and emerging technologies. A commitment to diversity and an understanding of how diversity impacts learning and instruction is strongly preferred as well.
Faculty positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Dutchess Community College and Dutchess United Educators (DUE).
