College of Nursing and Health Professions at Valparaiso University in Indiana Names New Dean

The College of Nursing and Health Professions at Valparaiso University in Indiana has named Karen Allen as its next dean. She will take office on July 3. Dr. Allen has been serving as a professor of nursing at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She served as chair of the nursing department at Andrews University for 17 years.

In accepting the appointment, Dr. Allen said “I am thrilled to join the community at Valparaiso University and the College of Nursing and Health Professions. I look forward to working with the talented faculty and staff to build upon the College’s accomplishments and continue its trajectory of growth and innovation.”

Dr. Allen is an associate editor of the Journal of Addictions Nursing. She served for four years as president of the International Nurses Society on Addiction.

Dr. Allen holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in nursing administration from Andrews University. She earned a Ph.D. in nursing sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
